Since the mid-1960s, NBE has been distinguished for issuing and promoting the investment certificates in favor of the Egyptian government. They are issued in three different types that match the various needs of savers, in addition to the following joint advantages:

·        Certificates are nominal. They may not be transferred, traded, assigned, pledged or disposed of in any way.

·        The value, interests and prizes of the certificates are exempted from all kinds of taxes and stamp duties.

·        Certificates are sold with no maximum limit at NBE’s branches and offices all over Egypt.

·        The certificates and their interests or prizes up to EGP 5,000 may not be put under attachment.

·        A replacement certificate can be issued in lieu of a stolen, lost or damaged one.

·        Public and private legal persons, including the Social Insurance Fund of Public, Public Business and Private Sector Employees as well as insurance and  re-insurance companies, are allowed to purchase and renew Types "A" and "B" certificates according to applicable terms and conditions.

Type “A” Certificate with Accumulated Return:

·        The certificate is issued in the following denominations: EGP 100: EGP 500, EGP 1,000, EGP 5,000, EGP 10,000, EGP 50,000, and EGP 100,000. 

·        The term of the certificate is 10 years.

·        Certificates sold in June 1998 and afterwards can be automatically renewed (for natural persons only) by their redemption values at maturity date.

·        Certificates can be purchased by both natural and legal persons.

·        Certificates are only sold to Egyptians, foreigners residing in Egypt for five successive years or those  residing in Egypt by virtue of a special residence permit.

·        Accumulated interest is provided at certificate maturity.

·        Certificates can be redeemed 6 months after their issuance. Redemption value is determined according to certain actuarial tables, based on the period of holding the certificate.

·        Interest is calculated for one complete calendar month even if the certificate is purchased on the last day of the month for certificates purchased before 15/11/2015. 

·        Interest is calculated as of the following day of purchase for certificates purchased as of 15/11/2015.

·        the customer may borrow against these certificates from any NBE branch in accordance with the applicable regulations and the interest rates in the date of borrowing.

·        Certificates may be issued by way of a gift or donation according to conditions to be signed in this respect.

 

Type “B” Certificate with Periodical Return:

·        The certificate is issued in the following denominations: EGP 500, EGP 1,000, EGP 5,000, EGP 10,000, EGP 50,000, and EGP 100,000.

·        The term of the certificate is 3 years.

·        Certificates sold in April 1997 and afterwards are automatically renewed (for natural persons only) with its par value at maturity date.

·        Certificates can be purchased by both natural and legal persons.  

·        Certificates are only sold to Egyptians, foreigners residing in Egypt for five successive years or those residing in Egypt by virtue of a special residence permit.

·        Each certificate yields an annual fixed interest which is paid on a periodical quarter basis provided the certificate is held for a three year period.

·        Certificates can be redeemed 6 months after their issuance. In case of early redemption, a reduction in the previously-paid interest will be applied.

·        Interest can be cashed via ATMs spread all over the country around the clock, 7 days a week.

·        the customer may borrow against these certificates from any NBE branch in accordance with the applicable regulations and the interest rates in the date of borrowing.

·        Certificates may be issued by way of a gift or donation according to conditions to be signed in this respect.    




 

Type “B”certificate for natural persons:


  • The new interest rate for natural persons holding group "B" investment certificates with periodical return for one year term, with  a monthly return.

  • The new interest rate is valid for group "B" certificates, issued as of 20/11/2016, throughout its one-year term.

  • The value at maturity and redemption value of the certificates issued as of 20/11/2016 are calculated according to the tables to be prepared.

  • Certificates issued before 20/11/2016 remain subject to the same conditions, interest rates, term, coupon disbursement frequency and tables of their redemption values applicable as at issuance date until maturity.

  • For the new issue, the interest is calculated as of the following day of purchase.

  • Certificates can only be redeemed 6 months after their issuance as of the following day of purchase.
