“National Bank of Egypt” receives the PCI DSS Certification

For the fifth year in a row:

“National Bank of Egypt” receives the PCI DSS Certification

In a ceremony held at NBE’s premises, Dalia El-Baz, NBE’s Deputy Chairman, received the PCI DSS v3.2 Certification from Mr. Suresh Dadlani, the Vice President of ControlCase, a qualified security assessor of compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS). NBE, which receives the PCI DSS Certification for the fifth successive year, is also the first bank in Egypt to obtain the PCI DSS version 3.2 Certification.

The ceremony was attended by the relevant NBE Group and Division Heads as well as Mr. Moustafa Ibrahim, the Chairman of Security Meter, ControlCase’s representative in Egypt.

NBE’s Deputy Chairman, Dalia El-Baz, said that PCI DSS v3.2 was a set of multifaceted global security standards that include requirements of security management, policies and procedures, network engineering, software design and other important preventive measures. These comprehensive standards aim at helping organizations achieve effective protection of credit payment card data, actively combat fraud and minimize risks associated with financial services. These standards are developed and regularly revised by the PCI Security Standards Council (SSC). They are applied to ensure the continuous implementation of security rules in order to protect the electronic payment/credit card data of NBE’s customers and to safeguard their money and data. El-Baz added that NBE had one of the largest mainframe computer centers in Egypt, which was recently fully upgraded and equipped with highly advanced servers with state-of-the -art global technology. There is also a plan to establish supplementary and alternative mainframe centers in accordance with international best practices to ensure the uninterrupted provision of services.

Meanwhile, Hisham Okasha, NBE’s Chairman, said that he was proud of this unprecedented achievement at the Egyptian banking sector level, adding that this Certification reflected NBE’s keenness on applying standardized and sustainable business procedures to secure the data of the Bank’s customers and their accounts. Accordingly, NBE can provide top cutting-edge services to its customers while coping with, and reducing, the risks associated with the ever-evolving technology. Receiving the PCI DSS Certification for the fifth year in a row and the Bank’s unwaning compliance with global standards are the fruit of NBE’s serious efforts and hard work as well as the incessant cooperation and collaboration between its divisions and branches to secure all the elements of the work environment and customers’ data on the different systems and applications in light of the massive technological breakthroughs and the ensuing challenges. The Certification will also boost the confidence of customers and global entities and organizations in NBE as it continues to expand its e-payment services and large network of branches, ATMs and POS across Egypt.

Remarkably, NBE previously obtained the PCI DSS v2, v3 and v3.1 Certifications, and now the v3.2 Certification, which demonstrates NBE’s continuous compliance with the global PCI SSC standards. This Certification, which is one of the highest and most prestigious international certifications, is a global accreditation of NBE’s ability to maintain the confidentiality of its customers’ card data.
